My mom has advanced stage RA and her doctor has told her to stop taking Naprosyn/naproxen and to try other pain relief. Any suggestions? Her doc told her to try tylenol but it does nothing. Can anyone suggest some other type of pain reliever that we can speak to the doctor about? Thanks!

My doctor gave me Tramadol, but it makes me sleep and I need to work! any other suggestions? are there no -sleepy pain killers or anti-inflamatories that work for it? and alternative or natural recipes your may suggest? Just going upstairs in my house is a torture!

My 13.5 year old black lab has hip dysplasia (diagnosed at 2 yrs old) and arthritis, also diagnosed with megaesophagus (12 yrs old). He's on Metacam and Sasha's blend. Lately, when standing, his hind legs slowly start to collapse, until he's bending quite low to the ground. On rising, he wobbles on the hind legs really badly. I'll be taking him to the vet tomorrow. I just wanted to know if anyone has had a similar experience. My dog is still so happy! I need to know when it's time to let go, as I don't want to be selfish. Thanks!
Thank you so much for your replies. I took my dog to the vet and he indicated that my beautiful dog has degenerative myelopathy. We will try two shots of stananzol (anabolic steroid) and see if there is any progression. If not, we may want to try cortisone. If no progression, unfortunately there are no other options and we will need to euthanize him :(. He's so happy which is the sad part, but his body is aged. At least I know what we're dealing with and I'll know that I did everything I could for him as he has been by my side for almost 14 years! As someone recommended, I'll be using a towel to help him rise after sleeping to make it easier for him to get around and take care of his business.

I'm not sure what kind of arthritis I have. I always assumed that it was osteoarthritis because I don't have any disfigured joints. However, after reading more about rheumatoid arthritis, I wonder if I have that. My joints all over are stiff and achy and my fingers are puffy. I heard that fish oil is good. How much of this can I safely take? What about other supplements? Thanks!

My fiance has rheumatiod arthritis in his feet and ankles and in the back. He tosses and turns almost every night to where it keeps him up and also me. We are going to look for a mattress this week. Should we look more deeply into firm or soft mattress'?

At 51, my orthopedist says I am too young for a hip replacement but the pain with each step has become agonizing, and the limping has caused imflammation in my SI joint. The doctor suggests three physical therapy sessions a week but with a deductible of 40.00 each adding another 480.00 minimum to my monthly budget just isn't in the cards. And- I have had some physical therapy with little or no results. Can anyone suggest anything?
I have tried a cane, but it seems that the cane doesn't help the hip pain much, since so much of the pain has migrated to my right SI joint and my right leg seems to have torqued a bit inward. I have tried using the cane in both hands without a lot of success.

What are all the symptoms for arthritis?

I found out there is a place down the street that does water classes for people with arthritis and I was curious if anyone found them to beneficial if they had mild to moderate arthritis. Thanks!

have you ever benefited from anything provided by the Arthritis Foundation?

My grandmother has been suffering with pain for years. Doctors have did MRIs to rule out blood clots/blockages. They say it's just arthritis and I'm trying to find alternatives for pain relief. She will try anything!

My aunt's pharmicist recommended her some japanese garlic tablets used to treat the pain of arthritis but she lives in texas and the doctor says that the only pills available are here in california. It specifically has to be japanese and I don't have a clue where to find them. I live in oc California but I dont have a clue where to find them. I already tried GNC but the pills aren't there. If anyone could please help, it would mean alot to me. Thank you all.

All of a sudden I get pain in my left hip a month ago, and it is still tender today. I don't understand what happened. It seems that walking is helping a whole lot right now. Instead of being able to exercise it out, some of the problem is transferred to hyperextending my left knee too. What can I do?

Are there any supplements I can take to get rid of the arthritis?

I read that apple cider vinegar is supposed to be better than ice. Is this true?

I've been using the bench press for about a month now, and I've had great results. The problem is, about three days ago I developed joint pain in and around my shoulders. I don't want to stop using the bench press because it's the best piece of workout equipment I have and I've gotten fantastic results. Is there something I can do to stop this pain?

My friend have rheumatoid arthritis, she is concerned because she's taking 3 medication, and still have joint damage on her small joints. Is this normal?

I was in a bad car accident a few years back. I now have a severe case of arthritis in my knee. I dont want to take meds all the time to dull the pain. I guess I am looking for a good natural treatment or home remedy that really works. Thank you in advance for any info you can give me.

And could this lead to future joint replacement surgery. At his age, would surgery be wise?

I would like to know #1 what causes arthritis and #2 is it something that just shows up after a bad auto accident?
Thanks.

I am just trying to find out if the pain I have is coming from my hip or stomach adhesions that I know I have also. Very painful. Dont want to have surgery for adhesions when pain is coming from arthritis/bursitis in hip. Does anyone know if cortisone shots will help with hip arthritis and for how long will it last.
DESPERATE!!!!!!!!
