My mother who is 53 years old is suffering from it (Arthritis). The pain and and its (Arthritis) effect become unbearable during winter seasons and especially when she is exposed to prolonged works in water

My 8yr old westie has really bad arthirits in her back legs especially, although I am going to ask my vet to rule out dysplasia as well and I know westies are prone to "hip degeneration" although that is a bit of a vague term.

anyway, she is currently on a medicine called meloxidyl and also glucosamine but there is pretty much no improvement. if she has been lying down for a while it takers her ages to be walking relatively normally and her back legs are extremely weak. for example, the other night I patted her on the back lightly and it took her by suprise obviously and her back legs went and she just flopped on the floor :(

does anyone know of anything else I can do or give to her? I want to try getting her to do a bit of swimming if I hold her in a full bathtub as she can’t swim herself so that rules the ocean out. (she is afraid of the noise of the ocean anyway)

I have also started including oily fish in her diet. (tuna in sunflower oil)

10 points for the best answer.
thanks for the help so far, I’m going to give her a chance of about a week to respond to this medication and then I’m going to ask for an x-ray. I will also look into the vitamin C and the other things. My vet’s assistant reccomended massage as well but I don’t really have any idea where to start so if anyone could post a link to a website showing how to do it that’d be great. Thanks again! Look forward to reading more answers. :)

the front of the tops of my legs. Sometimes the pain about makes me want to drop.

My mom has had severe and debilitating rheumatoid arthritis for 18 years. Her dr. wants to try Humira. Does anyone know of a different and safer treatment option. It hurts me to see her hurt and would really appreciate some help.

I have heard that if you crack you knuckles alot, you will get arthritis. Others say it is not true. Which one is it?

I have severe lower back, knee, and hip pain due to arthritis. I can’t stand for more than about 20 minutes, lift anything weighing more than 10 lbs, or bend without pain. I can barely do my dishes. I’m a stay at home mom, and even when my kids get older there is no way I could work. I haven’t been diagnosed yet but I know it’s arthritis. Is this something I could get social security for? Some days the pain is worse than others.

I’m 56 with hip pain from arthritis. I know water aerobics, water walking, etc. are excellent for someone like me, but are these still considered "weight bearing" exercise? How about using noodles and styrofoam dumbbells?

I took my cat to the Vet today. I thought he was poisoned but his blood test results were normal. The Vet said my cat has arthritis in the hips. My cat can’t even stand on his hind legs. It seems like out of the BLUE our cat can’t function. I’ve never had that happen to me with any of my cats. He has been sleeping and laying around all day and all yesterday. The vet gave him a steriod shot that might help his muscles and help him get back on his feet. I just don’t want our cat to suffer. Right now he seems okay relaxing, chilling out but he can’t even walk by himself. His hind legs seem useless. Is this the end? Do you think we need to put our 8 yr old cat to sleep? Does anyone know? I need some advice. It’s really sad right now to think of loosing our beloved cat!
Okay this is what I don’t understand: if our vet says our cat has arthritis, why can’t he use his back hind legs? Seriously, I mean really. I am so confused right now. I guess I’m in denial right now. If our cat can’t function, how is he going to go the bathroom? I can feed him and give him liquids but at some point you would think he needs to release himself(bathroom break) . Do we need to buy diapers? If it gets to that point is it time to put our cat to sleep. I think it’s wrong to make a cat suffer. Right this moment he’s not suffering but I don’t even want him to feel any pain. I’m so torn. My children and I have been crying on and off all day. I’m just trying to get some answers so I can make the right decision. I need to make the best decision for our cat! He’s our MAN. He’s truly the best cat. As I look into his eyes it’s like he’s telling me "Time is running out". Is it time to let him go into the light? It’s just so hard and so sad! Thanks for all your advice. It’s helpful.

Okay, so here’s the deal: My grandma keeps bugging me telling me that she thinks she has neck arthritis. And she won’t go to a doctor. I need to know the symtoms that people have, so if you know, please tell me. P.S. please only answer if you really know. *Thank-You!*

I have osteoarthritis in my lower back, as well as, being overweight with all of the excess weight in my mid-section. Can all of this combined with being pregnant cause me to be a high risk pregnancy?

If so, did it help your dog? Is it worth the to try it for my dog? My golden retriever is 10 and has hip dysplasia and I read alot of good reviews on 1800petmeds website about it but I would like to hear from someone other than just on their website.

My sister is expecting her first baby (yay!!!) but suffers from very severe rheumatoid arthritis which is now terrible as she can’t take any medication while pregnant. She needs a car that is easy to get into and out of (so higher off the ground than usual) and will be easy in the long run for her to put bub in and out of. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated :)

i am 27 and suffer with artritis, due to me having ivf treatment i cannott take the medication which slows the disease down, i am taking medication which helps the swelling and pain. Has anybody got any suggestions of natural remedies or thing that ease the pain without taking any other medication.

I was wanting to know if there is anything a doctor can prescribe to slow down the degeneration of the disc and arthritis to where it doesn’t get any worse then it already is or slow it down?

I am suffering with chronic back pain as well as joint pain, Please help me how i reduce this pains.

My grandma has been in a lot of pain since the last while, she has really bad arthritis in her knee, shoulder, elbows, ad wrists. If anybody know’s anything about treatemtns or cures to help her I would really apprectiate it.

I am 38, recently diagnosed with right hip osteoarthritis (early arthritis )after one painful episode in the hip. Now I go to the gym regularly to lower my weight because of a slightly high fasting blood sugar!! In the gym, which one of the 3 machines I need to avoid: Treadmill fast walk , stationary biking or arc trainer? none of them produced pain so far, but I am worried that it may cause further damage in a hip with early degenerative changes.

I am only 28 but My knees hurt quite often. I’m NOT over weight so i don’t understand it. i used to exercise a lot and I cheer leaded in high school. My back hurts often too..could this be arthritis?? I asked my Dr. to check me out and he said that I’m too young but I disapprove..what do you guys think??
