Psoriatic Arthritis Archives

I’ve been diagnosed with psoriases, psoriatic arthritis (which is now severe, the swelling won’t go away, and my finger’s are starting to become deformed and it’s really painful. I’ve also been diagnosed with gallbladder stones. I’ve tried a lot of anti inflammatory pills and none help. My one specialist suggested that I start IV treatment (remicade) but my other specialist refuses to prescribe it and he wants me to start methrotrexate. I don’t know if that’s a good idea since I found out that I have gallbladder stones since I’ve been having attacks for about 6 years and they last more than 6 hrs.My attacks are severe and last 9 to 15 hrs. Even the hospital couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me until now that I’ve been diagnosed (6 yrs later) . I’m only 24 and I’m hoping to get my health back on track. Thank you so much

In the past 3 years I’ve been getting really sore thighs, knees, groin, neck and hands (although the hands thing could easily be attributed to how much time I spend on my computer).
I have also developed this horrible lumpy rash on my elbows and knees. Recently my mum mentioned that a few of my female cousins have this thing called psoriatic arthritis and it sounds like what I have. When I went to the doctor she was really nice but she said there was no test for it so I should just try to keep warm, do loads of exercise and come back when I had an inflamed joint to show her. The thing is, they never seem to get obscenely swollen or inflamed so I have no reason to go back. But it’s really uncomfortable, I find myself having to go walking around the city all evening because sitting still is so sore.
Any tips or advice? Because I am purely self-diagnosed I’m not going to go out and buy any drugs or anything. But I would be keen to try anything else that might help.
Thanks.

I’m 18, male. My mother thinks I have it because I have acne on my chest/back/shoulders, bad dandruff, and my back/wrist pain.

Thing is, I am a major gamer, and I use the computer a lot. And I am not very active, which is probably the reason for my back/wrist pain.

The acne/dandruff is probably from not showering as much as I should. (The shower is in my parents room, and I have a messed up sleep schedule. Which I plan on fixing.)

And, when exercising, or when my body heats up/cools down or w/e, I start itching really bad. I am currently obese, but I’m working on walking 5 miles per day to drop the weight.

Is it psoriatic arthritis or just bad acne and my lack of physical activity?

Also, in an unrelated question, Some times I have a bit of shoulder pain, whenever I rotate my shoulder in a wide circular motion, I hear a cracking/pop noise. Why is this? Is it fluid buildup?

I was just diagnosed with this form of arthritis, read many opinions but was curious if anyone else has expiernce in this and what meds worked the best for you.

Every body says walk, runnin e’t.c.
But guide me keeping in view my medical problem of arthritis.

I am taking methotrexate and don’t think its working ( i know it takes a while so I am giving it more time) I am 25 by the way. Humira or Embrel is in the foreseeable future. Is it worth the risk. The pain in my hands is terrible and more specifically in three fingers on my dominant hand. Are there any other effective treatments other then the three i have mentioned/.

Does anyone know of any experts in the NYC or lower CT area in the field of psoriatic arthritis or Rheumatoid.

Does anyone know about treatment options for Psoriatic arthritis? I need to know to help someone I love in my family. Any information will help and if anyone recommends any physicians.

Thank you

I have been diagnosed and am wondering if my children are at risk.

im 16, and my doctor said i have psoriatic arthritis. i think hes wrong. the lower articulations in 2 fingers hurt, and every so often some months, it switches to 1 or 2 other fingers and it ends in those (that is from that arthritis). next, the doctor told me my nails were tipping or something like that, i forgot the name of that action, yet I dont think hes right my mom and i, and my friends and i checked the nails and we all have them exactly the same. next, i dont have anything of psoriasis. the little red things u get in your forehead/head, no symptoms at all of psoriasis. do u think my doctors wrong?

I am a 35 year old female. For the past two years I have been dealing with Psoriasis. This past summer I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis and am having much managment success with Methotrexate and anti-inflammatories. On a scale of one to ten, my symptoms are a two.

This past week, my doctor suggested that I may have Cushing’s. I am being tested this week. Can these diagnosis be related? Can one be a sympton/result of the other?

Is it sore- EYE- a - tic or sore - ee - AT - ic?

Can you die from psoriatic arthritis, or does it just affect your joints and make them swell up, or can you actually die from it? My mom who I love dearly has it and I’m trying to learn more about it.

What DMARD would you recommend for psoriatic arthritis?
I was just asking for advice based on personal experience.

My father told me he was diagnosed recently with it, after having the skin desease that occurs before the arthritis usually. This is a recent messege i’ve sent to him over myspace with a responce. And any advice you have that i can give to him is greatly appreciated. This is a serious illness. It can be life altering for him, he’s got a wife and two children, he’s 29. So i’d love it if somehow i could help him using your advice. I have already prayed for him.

I am 15 years old and I was recently diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis a couple months ago. Since I’m only 15 I don’t really know anyone else who has it. Is there any way to make the swelling go down? Even certain days when the pain isn’t bad my toe is still swollen.

i’m 15 and i use a shampoo called t/sal and a foam called luxiq for the psoriasis on my head, i can never seem to totally get rid of it (i know that will probably never happen but) is there any shampoo out there that is really really effective?

I’ve had psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis for over one year now and it’s a terrible disease. I’ve tried external creams, shots, and Remicade infusions. I’ve also lost my hair and lost my finger nails and toenails. I’ve had to wear slippers for over a year due to the loss of my skin on the bottom of my feet. The has been devasting to my mental state of mind as well as my social activities. I hardly go out of the house because it’s difficult to walk and do every day activities like I use too. When I do go out I have to use a wheelchair. My doctor currently dropped my Remicade infusions and will put me back on my Embrel injections along with Raptiva. This will require me to have 3 injections per week. Thank goodness shots don’t bother me. Is their anyone out their who can identify with what I’m going through. I don’t wish this physical pain on anyone. I don’t know from day to day how I’m going to feel physically or mentally. It is a chronic illness that will never go away…
