It is usually a good idea to avoid taking medications whenever possible. Non-steroidal anti inflammatories(NSAIDS,) like ibuprofen, can be effective, but when taken everyday, there is risk of kidney disease and other complications. Taking narcotic pain medications can lead to addiction and increase the risk of injury, because they do not actually treat the problem, but only the symptom.
Instead, maintaining a healthy diet and preforming low impact exercises, like walking or swimming, is one of the most effective treatments for arthritis. Learning to live with arthritis, which is where you identify activities that cause arthritis pain and then try to figure out ways of reducing the amount of strain on the body, is also important.
Regular Exams are also very important, as this helps identify how quickly the disease is spreading and what parts of the body it is affecting.
