Juvenile Arthritis or Growing Pains? ?
My son has had pains in his knees/feet since he could walk and he is now 5, almost 6. On many occassions it has been so bad that he can not even walk. The doctors refused to do any testing for Arthritis and blow it off as growing pains. Am I just an overly concerned parent, or do you think there is a possibility it could be arthrits? Also it seems to be irritated by the cold.

Is there anything that calms it like milk or bananas? Adding more calcium and protein to his diet might help. Have you tried give him Motrin (child dose) when they happen? What did your doc say to do when they happen?
My boys both had that issue and it eventually went away. I had juvenile arthritis and now have rheumatoid so oh course I automatically panicked thinking they had it too. I don’t think that your being overly concerned especially if it runs in your family. You can always get a second opinion from another doctor but it sounds more like growing pains then it does arthritis.
Hi Jacqueline! Nurse Kindheart here! Is the pain shooting, burning? i wonder what type of pain it is. You;re wise to pursue it no matter what the doctors say. Doe he have ill-fitting shoes? Flat feet? Scoliosis of the spine? Anything that would throw him off his natural posture? I doubt that it is arthritis or juvenile arthritis, Doesn;t sound like the symptoms. It could possibly be a food allergy. To milk and dairy possibly. Try taking him off it for a week. How about gluten intolerance? Gluten is in wheat, barley and rye and others. Any celiac disease in the family? I would not give him any medications. Motrin is especially bad for kids as recent studies show. Tylenol is bad also as is aspirin. Stay natural as much as possible, I wish I knew more about the pain description. Hope this give you some ideas. Nurse Kindheart
