Both my dogs are. My dog Trixie is on phenobarbital for epilepsy, and Belle is on Deramax for arthritis.

Do you, or have you ever had a pet that was on long term medication?
I know this is an odd question… I’m just curious though =)

I took my dog to the vet yesterday thinking he had arthritis of something to find out I most likely caught the very early stages of this disease that paralyses dogs.
I take very good care of my dog and I just don’t understand how this happend
I have looked up some resourses but they gave me a lot of medical terminology and didn’t answer my questions it this is what my dog has and the vet seemed sure but put him on arthritis meds just in case
Was there something I could have done to prevent this? I am just feeling helpless since he probably has less than a year left with us if he has this.

I live in a small province in Argentina and I have to say that we don’t have too much products for dogs in our vets, but I’ve seen on the net some boots and I might get them but I’m not sure it will help my dog. She has a hip dysplasia, and though she can walk well she has trouble standing up on the ceramic floor, so I was wondering if anyone has tried this neoprene boots, and if they indeed work. Thanks a lot for your answers, and sorry for my english!

I do give her a glucosmine supplement, but she’s eleven years old now and she has a degenerative malformation in the hip or something like that, so I’m trying everything I can to help her. I know in the States you have acupuncture for dogs! I wish I had that kinds of aids in my province…

Actually the boots are ment to help dogs with trouble standing up, or at least that’s the way they sell them. I give her Rymadil but not often because I’ve read that it has long term side effects. She has a bedspread where she sleeps but she’s constantly moving around and lays down on the floor, so I have to help her all the time, and sometimes it hurts her because she tries to bite me a little bit. I’m trying to get that "arnĂ©s?" to lift her from her rear part.

My 10 yr old Border Collie has severe arthritis in his hips and back legs and knees. He has been on Duramax for quite some time. It seemed to help for awhile but not anymore. The Vet has put him on Metacam now. Has anyone noticed an improvement with their dogs arthritis after changing meds? Do they build up a tolerance for one med? I feel so bad that he is in pain. Any advise?

12 year old german shepherd on prednisolone for over 4 months for arthritis started off 4 tablets a day then went to 4 tablets every other day now on 2 tablets once a day dont seem to be helping much but have heard things like long term use has bad side effects, does any one know if this is true or not and if there is any cream you can buy for arthritis in dogs please dont say put her down cos shes brill apart from arthritis and i know people id sooner put down than my dog.

She limps a lot because of her arthritis and sometimes i even rub her shoulders…its not like im pampering her its just that i want her to be able to climb our stairs. haha. So does anyone know any good dog foods for arthritis?…for dogs
English Springer Spaniel Type: Showdog NOT field dog

She has seen the vet and was given a cox 2 inhibitor that has resulted in stomach ulceration and gastrointestinal bleeding. She is now recovering from the stomach trouble, but can hardly get around due to arthritic pain. Do vets ever use tylenol type products on dogs? I’d imagine that would be harmful to a lab’s liver. Suggestions? I would hate to have her in pain and hate more to euthanize her.

She was born with hip displaysia and the arthritis is a result of it. It pains her to go outside, resulting with her making in the house. It hurts her to even stand up, so she lies on the couch almost all day. Her legs and hips are as skinny as can be, not like I dont feed her, just she doesnt use them as much so most of her weight is in her upper half. Right now im even watching her and shes laying down on the floor, with her food bowl full and all just laying while the other dogs i have stuff their faces ( as she used to do). I took her to a specialized vet for xrays, he performed lazer treatment, and then gave her steroids for the pain. of course he charges a heck of a lot too which did absolutely nothing to ease her pain. What can i do for her?? i give her glucosamine but that does nothing. Im worried about the surgery bc 1. its veryy expensive and it might now even work if her body rejects it- no gurantee to help. what can i do for her?
shes young. shes only 7 id never put her down

Hi i have a 12 year old german shepeard/cow mix and he has arthritis. Hes not dying or anything but he could really use some medicine. He has troubles getting up on wood because he slips but he gets up ok on carpet. He lays down alot but thats normal for dogs. We’ve tried glucosamine and Remodil or something i dont know if i spelt that right. thanks

my 6 year old golden retriver is showing signs of arthritis, i want to get her something that is safe for dogs and works without getting her sick, any information would be GREAT! thanks so much!

It's Dr Franks arthritis and joint pain ease? You spray it in the Water????I ordered some for my dogs and am hoping for a good outcome

theres that medicine that you can give dogs with arthritis called 'Happy Hips'. how much should i give my dog a day?

I have heard so much about possible liver, kidney, or other damage, & my vet does admit there are risks, but still wants me to give this medication to my elderly dogs, a mixed breed & a lab. They DO have severe pain & impaired mobility due to arthritis, but I wonder if the medication will do more harm than good? So far, the mix seems better, the lab is about the same, but I still feel weird about giving the meds. What experiences have other dog owners had with it? Anything GOOD? Thanks.

I have a Germman Shepherd that is starting to show signs of arthritis (not hip dysplasia) and was wondering if anyone has used medication or supplements that are for horses but works well for dogs. I ask about this because I find that if it is for dogs the prices are artificially high but can find similar or the exact stuff that works
