Why did my doctor get mad when I said I wanted to try natural remedy?
This doctor I went to said I should go on 3 kinds of very strong arthritis medications. I told her that I would rather try something natural before jumping to the medications. Then it was almost like she was getting mad and almost yeling at me. I think it’s crazy to jump to all those medications without even giving something else a try first. I’ve read research where other things can be beneficial. Any thoughts?

Arthritis is not a "life threatening" condition,so on that note…she had NO reason to get upset, other than the fact that like a lot of Doctors, she may be thinking she "knows it all",therefore does not like to be challenged by a "measly little patient" LOL
Now if you had Cancer or something, then yes,I could see her getting upset if you said you wanted to try something else first,I can understand Doctors concern in situations like those, but again…not with Arthritis LOL
"Good Doctors" listen to their patients, they are understanding, they "respect" your right to choose, they give you the pros/cons of every treatment option for your condition, but most importantly…they work WITH you,as a "team",always taking your views into consideration as well as their own.
If your Doctor does not fit that description, then I’d look for a new one
They get mad because there is no money for Traditional MD’s in herbal or alternative remedies. RX Medicines will mask the problems, especially in arthritis but they won’t fix the core issue. You are rare and bright for seeking alternative treatments. I recommend Acupuncture. Also, get your hands on some Liquid Trace MInerals ASAP. Literally will notice a difference in a week.

Good Luck and feel better
Self-medicating can be dangerous. That is probably why your doctor was upset and worried about you. It was very unprofessional of her to yell at you, though. She should have calmly explained to you why it is a bad idea to refuse medication.
The doctor believes that natural remedies are not legitimate medicine - the standard view of traditional medicine. Seeing her then telling her that she doesn’t know what she is doing (by inferring that her recommendations are not better than non-legitimate homeopathic remedies) insulted her. She was left wondering why you saw her in the first place if you wanted to treat yourself with a remedy that does not involve her.
hahah…. this is one of the reasons why im so glad patients have the right to refuse treatment…otherwise we would be at the mercy of the doctor’s judgement. it’s our body after all. doctors are just there to give us medical advice, and it is us who have the final say. i suggest u switch doctors because this one is closed minded. my doctor is fine with me going to an alternative route.
if u have arthritis…it’s probably because of fluoride in the water. get a berkey water system, it’s quite cheap and the main filter lasts like 3 or more yrs. u need the separate filter to get out the fluoride in the tap water. cook with nonfluoridated water.
look up fluorosis and try to have a doctor examine if u have excess levels of fluoride in your body. for arthritis…. i don’t think this will help but you can always look it up. look up colloidal silver and
b o b b e c k.
oh yeah and since you know doctors have this type of attitude, next time, just ask them politely if they know of some other natural ways to alleviate the pain besides medication. also ask the doctor if the medication is going to fix the problem or only help with the pain. this will cause the doctor to rethink what they’re prescribing and its efficacy …sorta…
They are told that there is no evidence of any alternatives working.. when in fact there is a lot of evidence, and they are not testing in the trials the right way, so they tell everyone that alternatives are just ‘placebo’ effects….
Five thousand years isnt enough for them, they have to have proof from their own method , and they dont test them right…. and they dont understand the other method to test it, and it would take millions of dollars to do it right;;
and they would not make any money on it…
Big Pharma rules the world right now, and if they arent messing up you liver or kidneys, that you or they cannot prove anything either one says is true, then they are not making any money, and your doctor has heard all this, and everyone questions them, and so they are getting angry… there is a medical mafia out there shutting down as much alternative as they are able to….
You are right in that taking the medicines, you have to watch your liver, kidneys and other side effects, and they will NEVER heal you…they may help to some degree with the symptoms, and maybe not….
The only ones I know who know how to treat this is traditional chinese medicine…but no one can say they can cure anything without making the mafia angry
A Dr. told me that natural stuff does work but they do not prescribe it to patients. As in all medicine it make work for some but not for others. His advice was if it works for you and helps you do it. All he wants is for his patients to be and feel better.
Great response from Krista. I might add a little ditty that I heard 40 years ago when I was reading books on natural medicine.."doctors are down on, what they are not up on"
Ok, I’m not an MD, but I can tell you, that your family doctor doesn’t make a DIME off the drugs they reccomend. Most doctors in the US do not have a dispensary in their clinic as that would be a conflict of intrest. Maybe she was having a bad day. We are only human.
Your doctor has a right to have her own opinion regarding natural medicine however she doesnt have a right to feel she can yell at patients or get angry, controlling, domineering or intimidating etc.
Some doctors sometimes start overestimating their importance- as in a superiority complex -and lose sight of the fact that they are providing a service and should always be treating their patients as equals with dignity and have a friendly, approachable manner,be good at personal relating, have good "bedside manner" etc.
50% of being a good doctor is your skills and knowledge and 50% is the way you treat your patients-one without the other will always cause complications to your patients & to the doctors themselves when patients file complaints etc.
Occasionally, doctors, and of course this isn’t for all,but we cant be naive and lose sight of the fact that occasionally some of them can get a big ego & they feel that they know all the answers and expect their patients to be passive & compliant & they can get very angry when their patient has a different view because it threatens their ego & sense of superiority.
Its an inappropriate & unprofessional way of acting-they are providing a service & they need to not lose sight of that fact & act with respect.Imagine someone going into a restaurant & the waiter getting intimidating, bullying, controlling & mad if that person decided that they were going to eat somewhere else-it would be really bad behaviour & nobody should think its their right to act that way, even if they have undergone many years of study & are very intelligent.
Sometimes when doctors(or others) act this way it is because she has feelings of inadequacy & when a patient mentions they wish to try a different treatment they dont only take it about the treatment but they feel that you are saying that they are PERSONALLY inadequate. They feel that you are saying that THEY are inadequate.
Its perfectly normal and acceptable for a doctor to say that they have concerns about natural medicine or that they dont think there is enough evidence to feel confident regarding prescribing it or that they dont believe in it etc however if a doctor isnt only just saying this but is instead having an extreme over the top reaction like getting angry or saying to their patient/s in a controlling way "i forbid you to take it" like their patient/s is their child, then usually this indicates that the doctor has deep feelings of inadequacy & this clouds their judgment regarding treatment of their patients & i dont think they can be a safe doctor because its no longer an objective view of whats best for their patient/s health but is clouded by a personal aspect where they relate their job & medical treatment of their patients with their own sense of adequacy so its no longer about the best, safest treatments for the patient but is instead about them trying to feel adequate & this clouds their judgement.
Personally if i had a doctor or anyone that acted that way, they wouldnt be my doctor or whatever for a minute longer.
That said though, most doctors are very smart people & have done many years of hard study & that need to be commended & if a doctor says they have concerns about alternative medicine treatments & says this in a normal, calm way in a pleasant conversation & is open to discussion & says it without any OTT reactions then this usually just means that they have concerns for your best health & should be listened to because being a physician they might know deeper about certain studies regarding herbs & whether they have been successful or not in studies for that said condition. Also they will definately know about your condition in deep & whether a natural treatment could be safe & plausable.
It is true that there are some closedminded doctors, however many are just concerned & reluctant to consider a natural treatment because they care about their patients & might feel concerned that their might not be enough evidence regarding effectiveness of the herb for the certain condition or that their isnt enough knowledge of potential sideeffects or possible toxicity etc.Contrary to popular belief, some herbs can also cause sideeffects or toxicity just like pharmaceuticals so they are considering all this so some might choose to play it safe & only feel comfortable with pharmaceutical treatments for now.
You cant blame them too much because while herbs have been used for a long long time clinical studies of them are relatively lacking compared to pharmaceuticals because of limited finances etc.
There are still some studies though, often showing effectiveness, but a lot more need to be done.
So there is an element of "at your own risk" when you take herbal remedies.
So you can understand why some doctors feel cautious regarding herbs for now but the way your doctor acted was OTT and wrong & i would think has more to do with ego or feelings or inadequacy then purely a deep sincere, balanced concern regarding natural medicines &
